Accountability

ACCOUNTABILITY
It all starts with you! Every action we take, no matter how small or trivial, can serve to improve, protect and nurture our world. And its not just about making you accountable but also making others accountable too. What actions are you doing to be more socially responsible? What actions are being done in your local community, workplace or by retailers e.g fashion shops, grocery stores, online stores?

You can start by checking whether a company adheres to the Social Accountability Standards – SA8000. The SA8000 Standard is based on internationally recognized standards of decent work, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ILO conventions, and national laws. They provide transparent, measurable, verifiable standards for certifying the performance of companies in nine essential areas:

  • Child Labor
  • Forced Labor
  • Health and Safety
  • Freedom of Association and Right to Collective Bargaining
  • Discrimination
  • Disciplinary Practices
  • Working Hours
  • Remuneration
  • Management Systems

There are also a range of websites where you can check whether the retailer you use is socially responsible or not. It’s the first step towards accountability!
